A completely solo album recorded between 1959 and 1961, this music has never been issued in any form before now. Donald Lambert 1904-1962 is one of the lost generation of pianists from the Harlem stride stable, men like Stephen The Beetle Henderson and Willie Gant whose names are repeatedly mentioned but who barely recorded, if at all. Lambert only had two official recording sessions, a 1941 solo date for Bluebird scandalously still not released on CD, and a 1961 piano and drums date for Jazzology. Donald The Lamb Lambert 12 February 1904 8 May 1962 was an American jazz stride pianist born in Princeton, New Jersey, perhaps best known for playing in Harlem night clubs throughout the 1920s. Lambert was taught piano by his mother but never learned to read music. For his particularly rapid left hand striding technique, he was a formidable opponent in cutting contests.
