Album

The undercurrent of menace and sadness that defined Massive Attack's best music is largely absent, replaced with a drowsy, half-formed gloom that, if anything, suggests resignation instead of dread. The record features always-chosen guest singer, Horace Andy and the following other invited vocalists: Tunde Adebimpe, Damon Albarn, Hope Sandoval, Guy Garvey and Martina Topley-Bird as well as guitar playing by Adrian Utley of Portishead, keys from John Baggott who also works with Portishead, keys and bass. The line about this being a return to Mezzanine is a half-truth, in all honesty it's a definite return to the darkness of that album, but there's plenty of 100th Window here too, the bad ideas from that record have just been dumped and the good ones have been given a better context to operate in. It has been certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry BPI. 发布日期 2010

Doomblade
Solid Press and good album, not closer to Mezzanine or Blue Lines but certainly worth having.
Mikale
Horrible crackle and distortion on right channel, especially in the beginning of each side, even after ultra sonic cleaning. No same problem with other records so it is just this pressing. (My set up:Audio Note Three turntable + Audio Note IOII MC cartridge) Too bad as the music is great and cover too.
Vushura
Another thumbs up for this pressing. Reference quality in all respects.
Gunos
hi, just wondering if is this 33 or 45? thanks.
dermeco
It's 33 rpm and it definitely sounds, feels and looks great!
Dagdatus
Amazing reissue, packaging, sound, dynamics, been waiting for this a long time. Initial track "Pray for rain" sounds the band is playing in your living room, grab this while you can.
Wizer
Finally a repress of this incredible album ! Great Reissue, mastering, and packaging
Conjukus
Paradise circus back ground is very distorted . As with other tracks .. Had to recheck my stylus as I thought it was fluff causing this .... bad pressing.
SupperDom
Got my copy from Canada but looks like my cart was jumping on every first track on each side like crazy, skipping etc... So, I got a replacement and this happened again :) Third item is on the way. I can't just stay without this album on wax so I'm trying to find a good copy for my collection. Also, my cart is Benz LP on VPI Scout and setup fine. Table is leveled. Has anyone noticed the same issue? Hope it's not a bad batch that amazon.ca got.
Goldcrusher
Not really. It's 1.9g for Benz LP it's recommended by manufacturer. This only happens with only this album from my collection and I got three copies from amazon.ca already with the same issue. The price the was best there. Cartridge really jumps and shakes on the first few minutes of each side then plays normal. With eye inspection there is sort of dent on first tracks approximately 3mm in diameter. That doesn't look like physical damage but most like manufacture defect and it's barely noticeable.
anonymous
Could it be an issue with your tracking force? Do you have anti-skate? I haven't tested mine out yet but I just might now even though it's well outside of the return window for Amazon.ca.UPDATE: Listening to it now. The first track has a constant bit of crackling but is otherwise ok. Not happy about the crackling but I did play it without cleaning it off with my brush first (it looks super clean). No skipping so far.
Shomeshet
The mastering on this LP is amazing, the artwork is to die for. A quiet, extremely dynamic pressing. I would kiss the mastering engineer right now.
Winn
OMG! Am I dead? I just realized it has been repressed and ordered it asap from amazon.ca $32+shipping. Canada rules!!!
Zeks Horde
lmao why was this so hard to find, is it limited edition or smth
Rude
This has been one of the most elusive re-issues for which I am now a proud owner. after years of toying with the idea of buying an original, the wait is finally over. The cover and inner sleeves are high quality, the outer is oversized in width so it wont fit any snug protective covers, you'll have to stick the record in sideways. The inner artwork is your typical Massive attack imagery not much text to speak of. the inner art booklet is a nice touch. The real gem here are the record pressings themselves. Superbly pressed finished well clean and sounded magnificent on of my planer3. For the price $35 Canadian its a quality package
Uscavel
think this is a pretty, if a little lazy, reissue. Same outer sleeve as for the 3 disc original, just applied glue on one panel to suit the 2 disc rather than reduce the size, so...don't expect to hang this on the wall as the tri-fold makes it too wide, and wider than any normal LP packaging. Worth paying £28 for but no more.
Reighbyra
Just received my copy yesterday from amazon (pre-ordered back in 2017)...finally it's here. 32.00 canadian. Now looking at amazon, it's already been bumped up to 54.99 canadian. Hilarious. The record - outstanding.
Androrim
Croatia, 24 eurosSound is great, superb design. This reissue is absolute win!
Eng.Men
Got this yesterday, as I pre-ordered it from amazon. Wow, sounds fantastic, and absolutely beautiful packaging.
Timberahue
Bought this yesterday at my local indie shop in MONTREAL for 35.00 cad, they had just received them . I did not open it yet. Beautiful / heavy packaging. Glad to have this. I hope it sounds good.
Arar
Just bought this for 29.99cdn in TORONTO, this records finally in my hands and what a beautiful production, well worth the wait! Beautiful sounding, even hearing notes I had never heard before with my added pre-amp, well done! Very happy! Now back to making great music, with less political notes!
Anaragelv
I love this release. Beautiful packaging, the art booklet is pretty cool, and sonically it sounds amazing. People want to call it a money grab but it pre-ordered for $23. The people that bought multiple and are now flipping them for 3x the cost are the money grabbers. I am happy to give massive attack some money they have gifted me with some of my favorite music. Excellent release!
Zugar
I picked this up from an online retailer for 27.99EUR, including shipping. Shortly after they bumped they price up to 75.99 like most others . I don't understand why so many retailers are now increasing their prices sharply for the this release, at least in Europe?
Longitude Temporary
Apparently this is a Label decision. I had ordered it at a local store which replied to me saying they couldn't propose it at the initial price due to this decision.
Brakora
Just bought this at a record store in Portland OR for $28. Lowest price on Discogs is $66 - come on record flippers, knock it off.I haven't opened mine yet, will listen to it tonight - but wow, this thing is huge, thick, heavy! Has a unique glitter embedded cover. This has always been my fav album of theirs after Mezzanine. Can't wait to get blunted and give this a proper spin tonight!
black coffe
Has anyone who pre-ordered it from Amazon.com received it? Mine still hasn't been shipped. "Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date." WTF
olgasmile
same for me. Clearly amazon are fulfilling the orders for all the other countries first (probably because it's priced higher elsewhere). Chill, i'm sure it'll arrive in the end.
Fenrikasa
Don't lose hope - as I wrote below, mine has been shipped yesterday.
Lanin
I ordered a copy in 2016 only to have them give me the same b.s. response about not having any stock. I also pre-ordered it from two other non-Amazon sellers and not a single one was able to get me a copy, despite having placed my orders in late 2016. So stupid.
Scream_I LOVE YOU
Update - my amazon.com order is being shipped. So it was worth the wait.
Kelenn
Wow, I didn't know you could do that. I wonder what your friend said to them.
tref
They preordered them out with not enough in stock so I called customer service and they had me purchase a third party one and comped me for the remainder which was $80. I didn’t have to get crazy on them but my friend had the same situation with his and he had to put up a fight, they still did it. Jeff Bazos can afford it.
Tcaruieb
Same issue here. No info about estimated delivery yet. I'm considering about buying it in some record store even for a few bucks more.
Hirah
I pre-ordered mine from Amazon on the 25th of April. No shipping yet. It currently says “Temporarily out of stock,” but it seems like they didn’t even receive any or they just are going really fast. When I pre-ordered mine it was priced at $23.99 and now it’s at $34.98. Hopefully it’ll be in stock soon!
Doktilar
Waiting on mine, it’s supposed to arrive today but it doesn’t show as shipped
Maridor
nope not had anything, and if you look they no longer have it for sale themselves, just from marketplace sellers. I'm not too confident they will ship it.
Ylonean
$33 at my indie and what a wonderful issue. So happy to be able to have this in my collection.
Minnai
£62 on Amazon UK and HMV. Is it pressed on gold leaf? dope leaf? They are dopes.
Iesha
Cost 25 EUR in my local store. Had to wait ages before I could finally get it on Vinyl. Sounds amazing, very little cracks and pops. Artwork is great. Front of the sleeve seems to be handmade but that almost sounds unrealistic. Great work of art. If you can find it at 25 EUR don’t hesitate! ;-)
Kirinaya
I picked it up in the Netherlands on the weekend for 27.99EUR from bol.com - just received it today. They have now increased the price 75EUR. WHY???
Pad
Actually impossible to buy this item for just 25 Euro in Germany (and i assume the same will be in other countries.). It's the double price. If you bought it for 25 Euro, your belgian store did a mistake. luck for you.
Dangerous
Lucky you. Which country are you at?The price is ridiculous in the UK.
Clonanau
This is a total money grab. £51.99, and it's missing the vital third remix LP. My local store are in uproar and said they're refusing to stock this out of principal. Why UMC have priced this at over double the price their other rereleases, can only be concluded as a MA / UMC cash-in on fans who have been desperate to add this to their collection. Have a look at the pricing of all the other general UMC reissues, literally all are less than £20, many of which are also double albums. I don't doubt it'll sound good, as literally all UMC reissues do and the poster below has highlighted, but at this price it's very bitter purchase for vinyl fans of this wonderful band, 28 page booklet or not.
ℳy★†ỦrÑ★ Wiℓℒ★₡oℳ€★TøØ
That must be some kind of VAT removed price, mine jumped to £51.49... . oh I don't know, this is getting so complex, I need to enrol in a 'vinyl economics' night-school. I have been sent a few emails to some major distributors, in search of a definitive answer - i'll keep you all posted. UMC probably won't comment. I have sent them a few unrelated emails in the past, and I never had any responses.
Winasana
No, I've put it in my shopping cart, and the price is still £42.91. Maybe the prices vary depending on the area. I'm from Russia. However there's only 1 copy available.
Azago
It's not correct - if you click on the Juno £42.91 link it takes you to a £51.49 page. Just out of interested, the cheapest I can find is What Records at £44.99 but it still says 'Release date to be confirmed' so I think the price will go up. For some reason, the UK, France, Germany prices are all very high, USA is very cheap - so what are we talking here... its a USA pressing and the price hike is for distribution / VAT costs? Yet why is Belgium selling copies at €24?
Error parents
It costs £42.91 at Juno, and they usually have the lowest prices, so yeah, it's quite expensive in Europe. I pre-ordered it from Amazon.com for $24, but it still hasn't been shipped. I suspect there were so many pre-orders that not everyone will receive it. But I'm not buying it for £43 - I don't really like this album this much, just wanted to complete my collection.
The Apotheoses of Lacspor
that definitely has to be your local record stores distributor gouging them on the price. I'm here in the US and paid $32. The third vinyl not vital to have this album. keep looking.
terostr
I paid $34 which would be around £25. Very fair considering the packaging. Sounds like the record store is gouging.
Daizil
I've seen UK indie stores (Transmission for one) say that the Universal have set the price so high in the uk that about £52 is the lowest you can really sell it for to without losing money. So they have said they will refuse to stock it.
Keel
I'm from Belgium, Antwerp area. I would feel ripped off too, but it will not be the pressing company but your local record company that is trying to shell more money on it.
Elastic Skunk
Can I ask what country you are in? I feel were being ripped off to an obscene level here in the UK. I have a friend in France who said its €49, an improvement, but not the super low prices that yourself and others are highlighting.
Swift Summer
It was 25 EUR in my local shop, so they are not overcharging. Must be the local distributor that is trying to make some extra on it...
Obong
This reissue is very impressive. Exceptional packaging, thick art book, and a pressing that is deep and rich and smooth as a 12 Year Bourbon, all make for a stunning release. I had a couple spots of tack glue on the inside sleeves but they were easily wiped/smudged off. Superlative pressing!

zzzachibis
I completely agree! I was ecstatic to see they gave this a glitter treatment on the jacket like the original release. Solid jacket material, solid pressing on heavyweight vinyl. I cant believe I am finally spinning this release!
Ann
I had an accident with my disc 1, scratching a ittle of side 2 (first minute now clicks). If someone has a spare disc 1 (as part of a damaged box, for example), please let know :)Thank you
Zulkigis
i think the reissue is very nice for everyone who likes to own a vinyl version, but it will be not the same with this release here: Material Design of the Sleeve can't be the same, it would be too expensive. Sound Quality: Very hard to believe that the original version can be beaten. And last but not least: the 3rd Vinyl will be missing, probalby also the cd Version of it.
Beranyle
as others already mentioned: a highlight; probably THE highlight in massive attack's career by considering this certain vinyl edition. The artwork is absolute amazing ( i guess nowadys the VINYL FACTORY would sell exactly the same record for at least the double price, but when this record came out the price was just around 35 Euro's); as usual the sound quality is about the best money can buy. a highlight for every collection. the one and only minus: the cardboard of the cover should be thicker!!!! very easyily the gatefold cover will be tearing. Besides: From the beginning i seperated the vinyl from the masterpiece cover.
Tygolar
What a phenomenal record! Easily the most interesting, intelligent, addictive set of songs that this duo has put out since Mezzanine, in a deluxe package from the "Budget?-What's-that?" crew at The Vinyl Factory. "Paradise Circus" is the obvious jewel in the crown: a catchy downtempo beat paired with the bottom of Hope Sandoval's vocal range. It's easy and cool like any Massive classic, an anthem to mellow euphoria, with a transcendent swelling of synthy melody at the end. People, this is how your music should treat you.But the album is just filthy with great songs. "Pray for Rain," the opener, is a classic chill-out tune and sets things off right. Martina Topley-Bird marks her return to the cast with two catchy, up-tempo tracks, "Babel" and "Psyche." And if you're looking for another gem from reggae man Horace Andy, "Girl I Love You" has got you covered. The only track that falls short is "Flat of the Blade," a weird experiment in bass and dull vocals that never really gets off the ground. Far more successful is the one-two closer: In "Saturday Come Slow," Damon Albarn of Blur fame gives us the slowest song on the album, and perhaps the most powerful. Then Robert Del Naja spends nearly eight minutes reminding you who's really behind the wheel in "Atlas Air," a gritty, perfect lesson in trip hop with a few solid minutes of unadulterated techno at the end. Heligoland is, after all, electronic music, but Massive Attack once again defies its boundaries. They're a vibrant, multidimensional act that improves with age.

Bizarrely, given the general excellent quality and detail of this vinyl production, the tracklisting on the sleeve is wrong. The sleeve lists the Additional 12" as containing Girl I Love You (She is Danger Remix), Paradise Circus Breakage's Tightrope Remix), United Snakes, Pray for Rain (Tim Goldsworthy Remix).

Like any other edition from the Vinyl Factory this is a collectors edition, as it takes the music of the artist to high level of presentation detail. Before listen to the music I was really impressed by the quality and detail of this cover, need to be seen in the flesh. The pressing of the vinyls is top... fantastic deep and fat sound, I can feel a lot of differences from the CD.These days, in that more people buy vinyl and that limited editions grow in every style of music, it is important to detail when something stands for quality in the presentation and sound, otherwise we would all simply buy MP3.The music itself is like any other Massive Attack... timeless and now following the line since Mezzanine, more and more music for the mind. Heligoland is a world of sensations, something that takes your mind to different trips. If sometimes you can sing along with Robert, Martina, Horace or Hope, other times you just surf between Heaven and Hell, like with Guy, but always moving... always loosing your mind in timeless memories of a lost future.I will not bother you with more details about the edition, but please pay attention to the third vinyl where you can find the remixes.P.S.: Don't loose the video of Paradise Circus

The video was at Massive's Attack at the time but you can find it in youtube. There were two official versions, one of them is adult's rated.

Agreed - it's always a pleasure to listen to vinyl pressed properly. Where is the video of Paradise Circus you mention? On the CD? (I have the Vinyl Factory pressing, but there is no mention of a video.)
Goll
thats all nice, the limited vinyl. but. any artist should also consider a non-deluxe vinyl pressing too, without the glitter, cant hear the glitter, thanks.
